Operational Efficiency and Improvement Case Studies
Example Operational Efficiency and Improvement Journeys
Information Management Services – We worked with the senior management team and staff of an 80-strong organisation wanting to become more efficient in the face of competitive threats. We launched a series of workshops covering Lean and process improvement techniques, managing change and improving marketing. We worked with staff in their place of work to develop plans, rationalise the organisation structure and develop new service lines. We helped the client identify and deliver cost savings of over 50% against an original budget of some £3.5m. The consultancy budget of £140k has yielded identified savings of over ten times this amount.
A large refinery operation - We delivered savings to the Sales General & Admin budget of nearly 30% against a 20% target over a period of a year, working with the board, project team and work-stream leaders. Our approach comprised a high energy launch workshop which created huge pressure for change, followed by a combination of workplace coaching and support in business process improvement and systems developments. The success of the analysis phase led to us being retained for delivering the changes and supporting the business in further projects.
A professional land management services provider - We were invited to review a 300-strong professional surveying practice with a view to outsourcing it. We recommended a radical change in direction from cost reduction to value-adding, culminating in developing in-house capability while letting nationwide ‘partnering’ contracts for low-value services. We made savings of 22% , and wrought annual concessions of £1.2m against a £3.5m spend directly from our workplace coaching. We trained the client team in cost reduction, strategic options and team building to transfer skills, knowledge and capability. The project was submitted for a national award.
